Ain't she sweet?

Ain't she sweet?

Alive and, well ....

I'm typing with two hands and rocking the baby, in a sleeping chair, with my feet. If I don't, I'll hear it! (From baby Anne) Patty's desperately trying to catch up on some sleep. She's gotten a total of about 4 hours in the last two days. That's in part because she now teaches for an hour each day at 7:30 a.m. Her choice! Fortunately, it's only for a coupla months.

Some random thoughts
If you tell someone you'll meet them for lunch here, you don't have to say what time. It's assumed to be noon. You'll get a funny look, actually, if you do ask the time. The lines form outside the restaurants at the stroke of noon, then they dissipate. Crazy.

Something else crazy: the winter mini skirt. Yes, I know a married guy isn't supposed to notice, but it's fascinating. The weather is 10 degrees outside, and women everywhere are bundled up in a heavy coat, chic boots and a mini skirt with bare legs. I guess it's better to be fashionable than comfortable.

Pack journalism
So, the head of Hyundai, one of the largest companies in the world and 2nd biggest in Korea, was sentenced to prison for 3 years for bribing and embezzling. Not ONE newspaper here led with it ... except the JoongAng Daily (and the IHT for all of Asia). Why? Well, no one expects he will go to jail for that long after the appeals. But more importantly, some have said quietly that newspapers don't want to disrupt the Korean economy and they don't want to upset a major advertiser by making a big deal of it!
